How can the supermarket chain transport information among its sites?
Morrisons will connect its 430 retail outlets across the UK to its headquarters in Bradford, through Cable&Wireless’ managed IP virtual private network, in order to deploy several business critical applications at various sites.
Under the three-year contract, Morrisons will utilise Cable&Wireless’ operating network Multi Service Platform (MSP) to transmit information through voice, data, video, and other media via an IP-based infrastructure.
To be deployed at Morrisons’ stores, petrol stations, distribution centres and data centres, the MSP can also be used for services such as IP-CCTV and fixed-to-mobile convergence.
Cable&Wireless will also deploy its Application Performance Management (APM) suite, to enable the supermarket chain view its IT infrastructure at application level.
The year 2008-09 has been quite eventful for Cable&Wireless so far. As well as winning some big contracts, the company has acquired a majority stake in wireless network company Thus in October.
Cable&Wireless’ notable contracts in the fiscal year include a three-year agreement with the Environment Agency to deliver a managed network service over MSP; and with the National Policing Improvement Agency for an integrated, managed mobile information system to be used by the police forces across the UK.
It is supplying MSP-based new WAN to Lloyds TSB Asset Finance, together with a new contact centre estate and IP telephony to all users; and is expanding the hosting work for the NHS Mail to include the rollout of Microsoft Exchange 2007.
Under a six-year contract with Aviva, Cable&Wireless provides a complete communications suite, including voice, data, local and wide area networks and international services, to Aviva’s staff in the UK and India. It will continue to carry BSkyB’s inbound customer calls into its call centres in the UK.
